From Marrakech to the Toubkal Refuge

The trek begins with a vehicle journey from Marrakech to Imlil at 1,700 m. After meeting the guide and muleteers, the hiking route climbs through Around village at 1,940 m and passes Sidi Chamharouch before continuing south toward the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 m.

Sidi Chamharouch

The Day 1 route passes the Marabout Sidi Chamharouch, described as a sacred site visited by pilgrims from across Morocco seeking healing and blessings.

Toubkal Refuge

After approximately 4–5 hours of walking on the first day, the trek reaches the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 m. The itinerary includes arrival for lunch, time to settle the luggage, rest, and an overnight stay at Refuge Toubkal.

Mount Toubkal Summit

Day 2 begins very early with the ascent from the Toubkal Refuge to the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 m. Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa.

Views from the Summit

From the summit, the itinerary describes views toward the Siroua massif to the south, known for its saffron fields, Mount Mgoun to the west, and, on clear days, the plains of Haouz and surrounding peaks.

Descent to Imlil

After reaching the summit, the route descends back to Imlil at 1,700 m. The second day involves approximately 9–10 hours of hiking depending on the pace of the group. After arriving in Imlil, the itinerary finishes with a transfer back to Marrakech.

Day 1

Marrakech – Imlil – Around – Toubkal Refuge

Departure from Marrakech by vehicle to Imlil, the starting point of the trek. Meet your guide and muleteers before beginning the first day of hiking. The trail climbs steadily past Around village and Sidi Chamharouch, a sacred site visited by pilgrims from across Morocco seeking healing and blessings. Enjoy a traditional mint tea break along the way, then continue hiking south toward the Toubkal Refuge. Arrive for lunch, settle your luggage and relax after the hike.

Day 2

Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech

Start very early for the ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 m. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views toward the Siroua massif to the south, Mount Mgoun to the west, and, on clear days, the plains of Haouz and surrounding peaks. After reaching the summit, descend back to Imlil. Upon arrival, transfer back to Marrakech.
