Return from Taghia to Marrakech
Aït Bouguemez Valley
The journey begins from Marrakech toward the Aït Bouguemez Valley and Zaouiat Oulmzi at 2,000 m. From the guesthouse terrace, enjoy traditional mint tea overlooking walnut and apple orchards typical of the valley.
Lake Izoughar
The trek follows shepherd trails past grazing flocks toward temporary Lake Izoughar at 2,600 m. The lake was formed after a large landslide, and the night is spent camping in tents.
Tizi n’Tighboula Pass
The route crosses High Atlas pastures toward Tizi n’Tighboula Pass at 3,000 m. Goats, sheep and occasionally dromedaries can be encountered, while wheat and barley fields contrast with the rugged mountains.
Taghia Valley
The hike from Tizi n’Tighboula to Taghia is more challenging and offers panoramic views of the Taghia Valley before descending gradually to the village at 1,900 m, nestled at the foot of towering cliffs.
Berber Mountain Trails
The fifth day explores ancient mountain trails carved by Berber shepherds. The ascent toward the base of Mount Aoujdad offers views of the limestone cliffs before returning to the guesthouse.
Itinerary
Marrakech – Zaouiat Oulmzi (Aït Bouguemez)
Departure from Marrakech to the stunning Aït Bouguemez Valley. Upon arrival at Zaouiat Oulmzi at 2,000 m, check in at the guesthouse. Enjoy a traditional mint tea on a terrace overlooking walnut and apple orchards, typical of the valley.
Zaouiat Oulmzi – Lake Izoughar
A gentle hike through shepherd trails and past grazing flocks, with spectacular views across the valley. In the afternoon, reach the temporary Lake Izoughar, formed after a large landslide.
Lake Izoughar – Tizi n’Tighboula Pass
Easy hiking across High Atlas pastures. Encounter goats, sheep and occasionally dromedaries. Wheat and barley fields create a striking contrast with the rugged mountains.
Tizi n’Tighboula – Taghia
A more challenging hike with breathtaking panoramic views of the Taghia Valley. Descend gradually to the charming village of Taghia, nestled at the foot of towering cliffs.
Exploring Berber Mountain Passes
A 4-hour hike into the mountains to discover ancient trails carved by Berber shepherds. The ascent to the base of Mount Aoujdad offers dizzying views of the limestone cliffs. Return to the guesthouse for the night.
